A pre-pollution study of the phytoplankton of an oligotrophic river in southern Nigeria

This paper presents a pioneer investigation of the phytoplankton of River Okhuahe located in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State. Samples were collected Fortnightly for phytoplankton and physico-chemical analysis. Phytoplankton samples were collected by means of 55µm mesh plankton net while water samples for physical and chemical parameters were collected directly into clean plastic containers.  The river was acidic, with a pH of 4.97-6.74 and very low in nutrients with a conductivity value of 9.4- 17.9 µScm-1.
