Linguistics and African Languages

Aims and Objectives

The Undergraduate programme in the Linguistics and African Languages has two major

  • To provide a broad, general training in tneoren and applied Linguistics;
  • To help students achieve an awareness of  language systems in general and languages in particular. The department a fundamental understanding of the changing linguistic environment in students live, so that they can apply knowledge to various problems of communication. To achieve these ,students are encouraged to take language-related  courses in English, Sociology and History .

 

Degree Programmes

The Department offers programmes leading to the award of both the Single Honours Degree and the Honours Degree. Courses are available for the award B.A. (Combined Honours) .Degree in Linguistics/Edo Language and literature and B.A. (Combined Linguistics/lgbo language and literature as B.ED/ Linguistics/lgbo. It is hoped that programmes in Nigerian languages will be introduced as soon as available.
