The University of Benin once again became the center of discourse within academic and elite circles when the recent results of the world ranking of universities from Webometrics placed her in the number one position in Nigeria.

The news did not quie come as a suprise to the management of the institution considering her huge and consistent investments as well as pioneering strides in ICT amongsts other Universities in the country. The recent results show a sharp improvement in the institutions rating over the past years, not only is UniBen ranked 1^st in Nigeria, she also came 22^nd in Africa, a position never held by any Nigerian University before even in 1^st position.

The University of Agriculture Abeokuta is placed 2^nd in Nigeria and 35^th in Africa, while the University of Ibadan came 3^rd in Nigeria and 38^th in Africa.

The Webometric ranking of world universities is done on a methodalogy that is based on the onlince performance, size, visibility, available rich documents (mostly publications) and impact of institutions' websites.
