Admission Requirements
UME Requirements
A. Candidates for admission into the four year degree programme (B.Sc.Sociology and Anthropology) should posses a Senior Secondary School Certificate or NECO or their equivalents with at least five credits passes which should include English Language and Mathematics with two additional Social Sciences subjects obtaied in not more than two sitings.
B.Acceptable passes in the University Matriculation Examination (UME) must be in the following areas:
(a) Use of English
(b) Any other two Social Science subjets ( Governent , Geography, Economics , Commerce , Agricultural Science) and any other subject.
(c) Candidate with a T.C.II must have at least five Merit passes including English Language and Mathematics.
Direct Entry Requirements
A. Requirements as in A(I) above plus passes in at least two subjects at the GCE (A/L) or H.S.C including one Socila Science subject OR
B. At least MERIT passes in two teaching subjects plus three other credit passes in GCE(O/L) or WASC . These five subjects must include English Language , Mathematics in not more than two sittings. OR
C.At least a credit pass at the Dilploma in Social Work(DSW) plus five credit passes which include English Langauge and Mathematics passes in GCE (O/L) ,NECO or WAEC. These five subjects must include English Language , Mathematics in not more than two sittings.
D.At least a B+ average in related fields in an O.N.D .Crtificate plus five credit passes including English Language and Mathematics in not more than two sittings.
E. An HND in any science subject.
Degree Programme and Courses Requirements
The Department offers a four year programme leading to the award of B.Sc.Single Honours in Sociology and Anthroplogy or a Combined Honours Degree in combination with other Social Science Discipline Combined Honoursspecialization begins in the third year when the students takes half of the compulsory courses in Sociology and Anthropology and the other half in the combining Discipline.
For the purpose of the minimum standard in Socila Sciences , the courses are categorized into three.
Core ( compulsory) Course must be taken and passed by all students before they can be awarded a Degree. Elective Course will consist of a wide variety of courses that would not be required of all students but from those specializating in such group .
Most of the Elective however would be outside the compulsory / required subject areas and could be from within or outside the Department and / or from ithin or outside the Faculty.
